All materials are sold by the cubic yard. A cubic yard is a unit of volume. It is defined as the volume of a cube with sides of 1 yard (3 feet) in length. The cubic yard is the recognized standard measure when purchasing material since different types of materials vary significantly in weight. Depending on the moisture content of a material, a cubic yard of the same material can have a wide range of weights. A cubic yard is always a cubic yard, no matter if its it’s feathers or rocks!
